I’ve always read that when writing you need to make people care about the character. I used to think that meant I had to make readers like the characters. As I read and wrote more, I came to understand that what is meant by that statement is I have to make people care whether the good person wins and the bad person get what he/she deserves. The characters in “Pelham 123″ is a perfect example of this. None of them are very nice men, so I didn’t like them much. I stuck with the book because I wanted to know what was finally going to happen to these dudes, especially Welcome and Ryder.
