I have to admit that I am still in awe over this past weekend. On Saturday, April 16th, I met a group of wonderful ladies that made me feel excited, embarrassed and honored all at the same time. I’m talking about the book club meeting I attended for the Lady Bruncher’s in Norfolk, Va.
I have never had a reception like the one I received from the Lady Bruncher’s. Iisha, Tanya, Kiki, Gogo, author Dahni and Toya pulled out all the stops for me. They cooked dinner for my husband and me on Saturday night. They asked questions that let me know they not only read the book but completely understood what I was trying to say. And more importantly, they let me know that I got some of it right.
On Sunday, the Lady Bruncher’s came out like nothing I’ve ever seen to show their support and love for Water In A Broken Glass. Since its publication, Water has been selling, and now I know why. It’s because of women like the Lady Bruncher’s who read the book and spread the word.
I can never put into words how grateful I am to have met Kiki, who says I’m her favorite author. I believe her only because Iisha, Gogo, Tanya, Dahni, and Toya told me how hard she pushed for them to read the book, and because her copy of the Waterlooks like my copy of Toni Morrison’s books, worn from being read to death. An author can only wish for a fan the likes of Kiki. I feel very special and honored to have her in my corner.
Thank you Lady Bruncher’s. Keep up the good work and the love you have for one another.
