Brunch With The Lady Brunchers

Yesterday Michael and I had the wonderful privilege of having brunch with The Lady Brunches at The Peppermill Diner and Bar in Norfolk, VA.  These remarkable women sure know how to do it up for an author.  Michael and I feel as if we are at home visiting family. The book discussion was fun and enlightening and had us all delving deep into our past and present relationships.  They enjoyed the storyline, which let me know that I have truly written a book anyone can relate to.

I want to sincerely thank The Lady Brunchers for loving and supporting me the way they do.  I want to especially thank Iisha for creating and sustaining such an uplifting, extraordinary group.  It’s not easy, and she works hard to keep it going, not just for herself, but for other women who need to feel connected, loved and supported.  And I suspect that Iisha does not understand how important she is to all of us.  Every author, every person should be so blessed to have a group as beautiful and The Lady Brunchers.

The Book

I know there are millions that will disagree with me, but I have to say this.  I love books.  I love holding books.  I love turning the pages in books.  I love going to the library and bookstore looking at the spins of books.  I just love books.  A lot of friends tell me that the Nook and Kindle are wonderful, and I believe them.  I just like holding a book in my hand, flipping through the pages.  There’s just something special about it.  Still, both my books are on Kindle and the Nook for the readers that disagree.

Happy Reading.

My Guest Today Is…

Check out “My Guest Today Is…” page and you will see a wonderful interview with one of my favorite authors, Anondra “Kat” Williams.  She is the author of the thought provoking short story collection, black girl love.  She is also the host of the hit blogradio show, Sippin On Ink.  Click and check her out.

Response to “In the Mirror”

Right now I am feeling as blessed and happy as anyone in the world.  People are really loving In the Mirror.  I don’t even know what to say.  When you are alone in your room, writing until you are falling asleep at the computer, you hope but don’t really believe that people will like what you write.  You know you like it, but you’re never sure if people will get it.  Well, the folk that are reading In the Mirror are getting it.  And best of all, they are telling other folks so they can get it too.

I received an e-mail from Sophia at The Book Escape.  She said that several people have come in requesting my first novel, Water In A Broken Glass.  I stopped by today and dropped off Mirror, because I stupidly forgot to order more copies of Water.  Well, she posted on The Book Escape’s Facebook Page that she had 3 copies of Mirror.  Come and get ‘em.  And the next thing I knew, she posted, One down.

An author couldn’t ask for a better response from her hometown than I’m getting right now.  It is wonderful.  My friends are telling people on the subway about the book.  They are telling their friends, and their friends are telling their friends.  It’s amazing.

The other cool thing is people are truly enjoying the story.  They are e-mailing me about scenes and music and places in the book.  They are stopping me and telling about their experiences.  I am just in awe of the great response this book is getting.

All I can say is thank you for supporting me and letting me know I got it right.  Baltimore is making its author feel great.

What’s In A Cover?

I have never been one to judge a book by its cover.  I learned early in life that a great picture does not necessarily mean a great story exists behind it, and vice versa.  Titles are what generally catch my attention.  After that, the first line in the book.  I was in Barnes and Noble today and came across Something Old, Something New by Beverly Jenkins, and I have to admit that for the first time I was stopped by the cover of a book.  I love the colors.  The soft pink of the trees and the color of the night sparkle.  Even though you can’t see their faces, the man and woman look so in love.  You can tell that by the way the two of them hold the flowers, by the way everything around them is in the background, because the most important people in their lives are each other.  It’s just one of the sweetest expressions of love I have seen on the cover of a book.  It’s refreshing.  I love that.
