Ben Grubbs

Ben Grubbs adopted C.C. Jackson Recreation Center and during his 3rd Annual turkey giveaway, he happily accepted an autograph copy of my novel, In the Mirror.  And he wished me luck making it to the best sellers list.

I thanked him for all the wonderful work he does for the children in the community.  They really look up to him.  He is an excellent example of a person giving back.

Coppin Booksigning

Dr. Catiliotti, Me, LaTrice Curtis, Karen Drake and Professor Cobb

What can I say about Coppin?  Well, I can say that my Alma Mater did it up for me again.  When Water In A Broken Glass was published back in 2000, my professors gave me not one but two booksignings.  On Tuesday, November 8th, my professors gave me not one but two booksignings again.  And the support was just as wonderful.

Tara Turn from the alumni association put the signing in the electronic newsletter.  And the next thing I know, I’m getting hits from everyone who saw it.  LaTrice Curtis and Karen Drake who work and attend Coppin contacted me and come out to support.

Professor Ann Cobb and Dr. Cataliotti, who taught me how to read and write about litature organized the signing for me.  They were so proud of me, but I am honored to have been in their classes, because I wouldn’t write the way I do if they didn’t teach me about Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, James Baldwin, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Toni Cade Bambara, Paule Marshall, Octavia Butler, Richard Wright and Zora Neale Hurston.  They sparked something in me that I didn’t know was there.  Even though I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was 9, I didn’t believe I had what it takes.  They, along with so many other great professors at Coppin, pushed me until I decided to give it a try.  That’s when I wrote Water.

Some people believe Coppin is a low rate school.  I believe Coppin is as great a school as you want it to be.  You have to be willing to work.  No one is going to just give you anything.  That’s one of the great things I learned while attending Coppin.  And it is because of this that I was able to do well at the University of Maryland College Park.  Professor Cobb, Dr. Catalliotti, Professor Collins, Professor Courts didn’t cut me any slack.  So when I got to Maryland I was ready to step my academic game up some more.

I will always love Coppin and the professors for helping me write the way I do.

Corinthian Booksigning

The signing at Corinthian Restaurant and Lounge was truly one of the best signings I’ve ever had.  When I walked in DJ Sugar Crisp announced my arrival, and from then on he talked up In the Mirror.  He played music featured in the book and had people talking about it.

The crowd was so supportive.  Once they learned what In the Mirror was about, they came over and talked to me and bought the book.  I couldn’t have asked for a better response.  People were so excited about the novel that I sold every copy I had.  And when DJ Sugar Crisp announced I had sold out, the place roared with applause.  They were really happy that they helped out their local author.

I would like to thank everyone who came out and supported me.  I’d especially like to thank Tony Michalos, who, after finding out that I’d placed Corinthinan in In the Mirror, told me to do booksigning there.

Today I posted fliers for my upcoming signing at The Corinthian Restaurant and Lounge.  I think it’s going to be fun.

Coppin Signing

When Water In A Broken Glass was published my Alma Mater, Coppin State University, gave me not one but two book signings.  It was the most supportive school I have ever attended.  On Tuesday, November 8th I will be at Coppin discussing my latest novel, In the Mirror.  I thank the English department at Coppin for supporting me once again.  It’s wonderful to be able to go home, because that’s what Coppin was to me while I was attending.  The professors pushed you to do your best and they gave you all they had.  I wouldn’t have made it through the University of Maryland at College Park if I didn’t have professors that expected so much o

Brunch With The Lady Brunchers

Yesterday Michael and I had the wonderful privilege of having brunch with The Lady Brunches at The Peppermill Diner and Bar in Norfolk, VA.  These remarkable women sure know how to do it up for an author.  Michael and I feel as if we are at home visiting family. The book discussion was fun and enlightening and had us all delving deep into our past and present relationships.  They enjoyed the storyline, which let me know that I have truly written a book anyone can relate to.

I want to sincerely thank The Lady Brunchers for loving and supporting me the way they do.  I want to especially thank Iisha for creating and sustaining such an uplifting, extraordinary group.  It’s not easy, and she works hard to keep it going, not just for herself, but for other women who need to feel connected, loved and supported.  And I suspect that Iisha does not understand how important she is to all of us.  Every author, every person should be so blessed to have a group as beautiful and The Lady Brunchers.
