Anondra “Kat” Williams

When did you first start writing?
It took me years to consider what I do writing and sometimes I doubt that I am writing..but I would say early 2004 when I started blogging and 2006 when I actually wrote what I consider my first “story”.
Who are you favorite authors?
I love love love Toni Morrison and Octavia Butler. Both are intelligent writers in very different ways. They approach a story differently as well but the ride is similar.
What books did you read when you were growing up?
I read everything! And I do mean everything, if it was around with arm reach, I read it. I remember spending my 10th and 11th grade lunch hours in the library. I would pick an author and try to read everything by them, which has lead to my love of Jane Austen and a few other classic writers.
Who do you write for?
I write for me which is why there isn’t a rule of sorts that I follow. I figure heck I get me and understand where I’m coming from. Now after saying that, I do rewrites and try to add what others might miss..lol I’m a “sparse” writer and reader.
Why do you write?
I write because to not write wouldn’t be living and I love living.
Why did you write “black girl love”?
I honestly wrote it almost because people expected me to. I wrote a few stories and some poems here and there and folks were like so when is the book coming out..lol Plus I felt I had some type of story to tell, in my own way of course.
How long did it take you to complete the collection?
Years! Only because I took some of my earlier stories and added some more to thicken up the gravy that is “black girl love”.
What is your favorite story in the collection?
Hmmm….I know them all you know so to pick one might make the others mad..lol
What do you want readers to get/learn from the stories in the collection?
I want them to get self, see self or heck others that they might now. Learn a little, grow a little..share even more.
What are you working on next?
I’m working on writing..simple as that.
Thanks for the inspiration, Kat.
